Denver Water crews have closed traffic down in both directions on West 29th Avenue so that workers can make additional repairs following a weekend water main break.
Ongoing clean-up and repair work makes it necessary to keep one block closed until noon, said Travis Thompson, spokesman for Denver Water.
“The area is pretty messy,” Thompson said Monday.
A 24-inch water main burst Saturday around noon sending a torrent of water down West 29th Avenue, he said. The road was closed for more than a day between Zuni and Umatilla streets until Sunday night, Thompson said.
Crews shut off the water, made pipe repairs and temporarily paved the road so that traffic could flow Monday morning during the commute, he said.
Crews are cleaning mud off the street, repairing damaged sidewalks and repaving the street Monday, Thompson said.
Breaks like this are typically caused by temperature fluctuations or the failure of a weak section of pipe, according to a Denver Water news release. Pipe age and material, soil type, corrosion, water flow and other factors can contribute to a main break.
