Prosecutors in Adams County have charged a 60-year-old woman with careless driving resulting in death for allegedly with her car in December.

The misdemeanor charge against Ana Faragoza of Thornton was announced Thursday.

The 17th Judicial District attorney’s office said Faragoza struck the boy, Joren Edward Coates, with his bicycle at the intersection of 112th Avenue and Federal Boulevard in Westminster.

Faragoza is due in Adams County Court on Feb. 28.

Joren was a member of school band. A junior at the school, he played saxophone and loved music.

“He was an amazing 16-year-old,” Cherie Coates, an unrelated friend of his family, told The Denver Post. “He had a huge smile on his face every time you saw him.”
