The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office asked residents in the Chaparral neighborhood to evacuate Saturday afternoon because a wildfire was threatening the neighborhood.

The brush fire had consumed more than 20 acres near Way of Patience and Way of Joy in northeast Elbert County as of 4:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page.

After 6 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office reported the blaze was 90 percent contained and no homes were in danger.

Fire crews from Elizabeth, Rattlesnake, Kiowa, Agate and Deer Trail had responded, according to the Elizabeth Fire Rescue Facebook page.
