Has New England’s Tom Brady broken into your top 10 quarterbacks yet? If not, who are the 15 or so guys you have rated ahead of him?
Sean, Buffalo
Kiz: I’m not too smart (as we all know). But I’ve come around to the idea Brady is not only pretty, but pretty good. If the Patriots beat Atlanta in the Super Bowl, Brady will be declared the GOAT from every mountaintop on the internet, because a gazillion folks all screaming the same thing is what the ‘net does best. For better or worse, my top three quarterbacks will remain unchanged: 1) Joe Montana, 2) Otto Graham, and 3) Johnny Unitas. I am now willing to slot Brady in the top five, ahead of John Elway, but behind Peyton Manning. (Oops, now I have New England and apountry mad at me).
Kiz, why do you persist on staying in the small minority that sees Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian as having peaked after one season as a starter, while Paxton Lynch has all this great potential? Why do you believe Siemian still doesn’t have a large upside himself? Given added strength, 10-12 more pounds on his frame and learning to protect himself better, we might have the next Montana.
Mr. G, Westminster
Kiz: And so it begins. Now somebody wants me to declare Siemian can be as good as Montana. Please. Put down the orange-tinted glasses and step slowly away from the Skittles.
I don’t see how the Colorado football team can avoid a step back in 2017. The Buffs lose lots of seniors on defense, while Southern Cal, UCLA and Oregon will all also be better.
Mike, Charlotte, N.C.
Kiz: No matter how impressive the rise, itap seldom a straight line ascension. Yes, the Buffs get to eat cupcakes in the nonconference schedule. (And, no, I’m not talking about you, CSU, so don’t get your knickers in a knot). They don’t have to play Oregon, but the Pac-12 slate is always tough. In a way-to-early prediction, I’d say CU would have to feel great about going 8-4.
Just wondering what happened to Drew Soicher on 9News sports. I have not seen him for over a month now. Is he sick?
Donna, Broomfield
Kiz: The mail room here at Kickin’ It Headquarters has gotten this question with regularity since Dec. 30, when 9News announced Soicher’s departure from the station in a three-paragraph statement. Soicher ruled a sports desk covered with bobbleheads for 16 years, a real good run, yet departed with very little fanfare. If you’re asking me, the goodbye seemed a bit cold. But what say you: Drew or false?
And today’s parting shot wishes Avs winger Jarome Iginla well in his search for an NHL contender, but wonders how many teams will be anxious to trade for a 39-year-old sniper on the power play that no longer has the legs to contribute much else in a quest for the Stanley Cup.
In Iginla’s mind, contenders are breaking down the general manager Joe Sakic’s door. In reality … nobody.
