A grass fire in Thornton is causing traffic delays on Interstate 25 southbound as firefighters work to get it under control.

The I-25 off-ramp to 92nd Avenue and Thornton Parkway remains closed, according to a tweet from the Thornton Fire Department.

The fire, which had burned three to four acres Wednesday afternoon, had forced traffic on I-25 at 104th Avenue to one lane, said Sara Farris, a spokeswoman for the North Metro Fire Rescue District.

Firefighters had the fire under control as of 3:30 p.m. but were still fighting hot spots, Farris said. No structures had been threatened, but the fire came close to the property line of North Mor Elementary School in Northglenn.
