Adams County Fire officials were called to 5233 Grove Street near Regis University early Sunday morning on reports of a floor collapse with the smell of gas.

A packed, floor-pounding party in a north-metro condo near Regis University grew so intense that the floor collapsed and a gas line broke, leading to a fire early Sunday that burned and blackened the building.

No injuries were reported.

Adams Country Fire Rescue crews fought the fire in the wee hours.

Fire battalion chief Clinton Garner confirmed the incident at 5233 Grove St. Adams County authorities received notification around  11:25 p.m. Saturday and were investigating.

“There were a lot of people inside that unit,” Garner said.

“I don’t know what they were playing on the inside, music, or what they had going on there,” he said. “When the crews arrived, there wasn’t anything showing. They had people come up and say: ‘Hey, I think there’s a fire inside.

“There was a gas leak on the inside. It was not an explosion. The entire floor in Unit 7 collapsed.”

That condo was one in a connected row of eight. Regis University did not own the units, authorities said.
