
U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, a Republican from Colorado’s 6th District, weighed in Monday on the controversy surrounding national security adviser Michael Flynn’s communications with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

Coffman released the following statement: “As national security advisor, Michael Flynn is responsible to the President, Vice President, and the American people. It is his duty to be fully transparent and forthright in his actions — anything less is unacceptable. If in fact he purposely misled the President, he should step down immediately.”
had misled senior administration officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, about the nature of his communications with the Russian ambassador and that Flynn was potentially vulnerable to Russian blackmail, according to current and former U.S. officials.

A senior Trump administration official told The Washington Post that the White House was aware of the matter, adding that “we’ve been working on this for weeks.”
Coffman serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
