Sleight of hand scam. On Feb. 1, Lakewood police responded to Chick-fil-A, 565 S. Vance St., on a report of a theft. A staff member reported that a man ordered a small french fry and put down a $20 bill. He then changed his mind and put two $1 bills down and the cashier returned the $20. The suspect then pulled out a $1 bill and claimed he had been short-changed. The cashier gave the man another $20 bill and he left with his food and extra money.
Trespasser claims he’s running from Trump. A man called police Feb. 3 after he found a man in hiding in his garage in the 1300 block of Chase Street. The suspect first knocked on the man’s back door and asked to hide in the basement. The suspect left, but later was found hiding in the garage. He claimed he was the president of the United States and was running from Donald Trump, who was trying to “nuke” him.
Disturbance at Lowe’s. On Feb. 3, police responded to a disturbance at Lowe’s 10555 W. Colfax Ave., involving an unruly customer. A Metro Auto Theft Task Force officer called in the disturbance after seeing the suspect harass a clerk and make sexual comments toward her. The suspect also called the officer derogatory names.
Unruly man arrested at 7-Eleven. A clerk called police Feb. 5 after a customer at 7-Eleven, 11599 W. Colfax Ave., caused a disturbance and refused to leave. The customer came in and bought a vape pen and proceeded to smash it outside. He then came back in the store and yelled at the clerk. Police told the man not to return for the evening. Police then had to return to the store when the suspect came back and threatened to beat up other customers.
