The October death of an elderly couple in Glenwood Springs has officially been ruled a murder-suicide.

Garfield County coroner Robert Glassmire has ruled that  fatally shot his wife — 73-year-old Mary Kent — .

“Physical and medical evidence from the scene investigation and autopsies are clear and convincing that Mr. Llewellyn shot Mrs. Kent in the head and then shot himself in the head,” Glassmire said.

The shooting happened on Oct. 18. Llewellyn was pronounced dead at the scene and Kent died on Oct. 28 after being taken to Denver for medical treatment.

Authorities say DNA samples from the crime scene analyzed by state investigators confirmed there was no evidence of a third person at the home where the shooting happened who could have contributed to the deaths of Kent or Llewellyn.
