Apparently, a lot of Americans use Presidents Day weekend to work on their taxes. Whether that’s appropriate is up for debate.

Regardless of its appropriateness, the Internal Revenue Service is extending its customer service hours over the weekend to meet demand.

The IRS toll-free telephone lines will be manned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Callers should be prepared to validate their identities by having prior-year and most recently filed tax returns available.

The agency is quick to point out that its website, , provides answers to common questions and includes many tools to help taxpayers file their tax returns.
