14-year-old girl facing manslaughter charge in woman’s Mesa County death

A 14-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and second-degree assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Mesa County death of a 61-year-old woman.

Stephanie Hauck is being held without bond at the Colorado Division of Youth Correction’s Grand Mesa Youth Service Center.

On Monday, the body of Linda Smith was found on the 500 block of 29½ Road. Her cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

All documents related to this case have been sealed by the court, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators did not say if or how Hauck and Smith are connected.

Authorities say their investigation is active and ongoing. Further details were not immediately released.
