Officials are calling two fires that burned more than 7 acres in the Green Mountain area Monday morning suspicious.
The first fire broke out at about 1:30 a.m. and consumed 1.7 acres. The second ignited around 6 a.m. and burned 5.8 acres.
Division chief Gary Armstrong said he doesn’t believe the second fire, which was about three-quarters of a mile away, was an extension of the first. “I don’t think the first could have spotted like that.”
“Our investigators say the two fires are suspicious,” West Metro Fire Rescue said on Twitter. “However, there is no official cause to release at this time.”

Both blazes were under control and the scenes mopped up before 10 a.m.

No arrests in the five fires have been announced and authorities did not say whether the earlier fires were connected to the pair on Monday.
“We’re definitely interested,” Armstrong said. “It would be an odd coincidence to have them not be related.”
