Interview with Shankar Ramakrishnan, owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?
:I like coffee and coffee roasting is my hobby. I always roasted my coffee for my own consumption. Coffee should be consumed fresh, and I decided to offer same experience to customers.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
:We source our own green coffee beans. We source only organic, fair-trade beans. We roast our coffee beans right at the shop so it is as fresh as it gets. We offer the highest quality in terms of coffee drinks. No one else does it on our side of the town. We roast only what we need for a week so it is fresh. We also offer customers the chance to custom order their roast so it is very personal.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
:Customer service and the feeling that we provide the best coffee without much harm to the coffee farmers and environment.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
:Bringing more people to the shop and raising awareness about the quality of the coffee they can consume here compared to big chains.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
:Coffee beans do go bad after certain period of time just like any food. We roast our own coffee in the shop and we source only organic, fair-trade beans.
