Arapahoe County seeking resident feedback on performance, priorities

3,000 residences selected at random for mailed county survey, online version also available

In the coming weeks, Arapahoe County is mailing out surveys to 3,000 randomly selected residences to ask people their opinions about the place they live and the job the county government is doing.

The county is also accepting responses online at .

The Arapahoe County Citizen Survey is being circulated to gauge how some of the county’s 640,000 residents think their local public servants are doing when it comes to delivering government services, as well as collect a sampling of residents’ impressions of the place they call home, according to a county . Itap a follow-up to a similar effort in 2014.

The random surveys will be evenly distributed among the county’s  and include a mix of cities and unincorporated areas, officials say. The first postcards notifying residents their households had been selected for the survey were expected to arrive Feb. 22. The surveys themselves will be mailed the first week of March. Residents are encouraged to fill them out and drop them in the mail as quickly as possible.

All respondents, both to the physical surveys and online, will remain anonymous, according to the county. The feedback collected will be recorded by the in Boulder.  

The opinions gathered through this process will help inform leaders — including the commissioners and high-ranking county staff members — about community feeling about the direction of the county, the efficiency and quality of services being provided, and the priorities and goals laid out in , the county’s “performance scorecard.”  Align Arapahoe, which the county website says is local governmentap way “to improve how we work so we can provide the best county government at minimal cost to you both today and in the future,” has three primary goals. They are: to deliver reliable, timely and accessible county services that ensure a positive customer experience; to use public resources wisely through ongoing efficiency efforts, effective budgeting and encouraging responsible economic development; and to foster a safe and vibrant county for residents, businesses and employees to live happy, healthy lives.

, board chair of the Arapahoe County Commissioners, is encouraging residents to share their views, noting they will inform the way the county conducts its business going forward.

“Itap important for us to hear directly from our customers,” Sharpe said in the county’s news release. “We value their feedback and we plan to use the results of the survey to help us set our goals and initiatives for 2017 and beyond.”
