A growing wildfire Monday afternoon in southeast El Paso County prompted more than 600 homes to be evacuated and road closures over a wide area.
The blaze — dubbed the Milne fire — is burning southeast of Colorado Springs in the Hanover area.

The county sheriff’s office said the evacuation area ran from Sanborn Road in the north to Squirrel Creek Road east of South Ellicot Highway in the east. It also stretched south to Hanover Road and west to Curtis Road.
Evacuations were lifted, at about 7:30 p.m., and area residents were allowed home with proof of residency.
Ellicott Schools released some students early.

Officials say the fire is visible from Schriever Air Force Base. A size estimate has not been released.
several structures are threatened by the fire, which is being fueled by strong winds and seasonably warm temperatures.
