Adams County authorities have identified the 35-year-old mute, hearing-impaired refugee from Myanmar in Aurora earlier this month as he walked across its tracks.
Saw Eh, of Aurora, was pronounced dead at the University of Colorado Hospital following the Feb.19 collision near 30th Avenue and Peoria Street. The county coroner’s office says his manner and cause of death remain under investigation.
Aurora police say Eh lived nearby and was crossing the train’s tracks from west to east when he was hit.
“Apparently, he just didn’t see the lights,” police spokesman Lt. Mike McClelland said after the collision. “He didn’t hear it at all. He just pushed through the pedestrian gate. He just walked right in front of the train. It was a horrible accident.”
RTD rail system operators were testing the train . It carried no passengers when the wreck happened, only a conductor, who stopped after Eh was hit.
RTD officials said their warning system of flashing lights was functioning properly. Aurora police confirmed that flashing lights and bells worked properly.
Eh was the by an RTD train.
Billy Ray Guinn, 57, apparently drove a van in front of an A-Line train on Feb.14 in Aurora. Police believe Guinn intentionally caused the collision.
McClelland said Monday that Eh’s death remains under investigation and that there is “no updated information at this time.”
