The apartment market remains red-hot in Colorado Springs, and a Denver company that plans to build 288 units on the north side of the city says it might nearly triple that number.

Etkin Johnson Real Estate Partners aims to start construction in the third quarter on an apartment complex in The Gateway at InterQuest at Interstate 25 and InterQuest Parkway.

An initial project would include 16, three-story buildings, each with 18 units. Depending on demand, the project could include as many as 864 units, the company said. Rents likely would mirror the market, the company said. Apartments built after 2010 averaged nearly $1,320 a month in the third quarter of 2016, according to a Colorado Division of Housing report.
