Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett said he will not seek the death penalty against Adam Densmore, who is accused of killing and then dismembering his ex-girlfriend Ashley Mead.

Densmore, 32, has been charged with first-degree murder, tampering with a deceased human body, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

While first-degree murder is a Class 1 felony that is eligible for the death penalty, Garnett said he informed the courts today that he will not pursue it in this case.

“This is simply one of the decisions that has to be made in connection with a first-degree murder case, and it’s a decision we made after a review of the evidence in this case,” Garnett said.
