A sheriff’s deputy who was fired after being accused of plotting to smuggle chewing tobacco and marijuana edibles into the Boulder County Jail was sentenced to 18 months of probation after taking a plea deal on Friday.

Tyler Paul Mason, 33, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of official misconduct in exchange for prosecutors dropping two felony counts of conspiracy to introduce contraband.

According to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, an inmate went to a jail staffer on Sept. 23 and said another inmate had made arrangements with Mason to smuggle chewing tobacco and marijuana edibles into the jail.
