Interview with Rainey Oliver, yoga studio owner/manager

Q: How did you get involved in this business?
:As young mothers living in the mountains, life can get lonely and it can be overwhelming with a growing family. Breigh Smith (my business partner) and I had been craving a place where we could practice yoga, meditate, bring our children and make friends with similar interests in the community. While grieving the loss of a family friend, Breigh knew that things in her life had to change — this place had to exist . Breigh called me and said that she was opening a yoga studio, and that she wanted kids yoga on the schedule. Breigh told me about her vision and I was blown away because I had also been wanting to open a yoga studio for families in Evergreen. Over some time of working together, we got to know each other, and we realized that we would make a good team with Breigh managing the childcare and co-op, and me running the yoga studio.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
:While there are already some awesome yoga studios in Evergreen, Echo Yoga is the only studio primarily focused on serving families. Once the schedule is complete, we will be offering prenatal yoga, baby & me yoga, toddler & me yoga, kids yoga, power yoga, vinyasa, hatha and some fitness classes with on-site child care available. A lot of parents choose , because it is a wonderful community in which to raise kids. We’re offering a place where kids are not an obstacle, but an addition to yoga practice and healthy living.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
:Yoga is amazing in the way it serves so many people. It heals our bodies, our hearts and calms our minds. As parents, we all want to be patient, peaceful, kind and good examples for our kids. No matter how hard we try to avoid it, life gets stressful sometimes. Without a regular yoga practice, it’s easy for stress to dominate our lives. I feel fortunate to be serving the community by offering a place where people come to relax and unwind. If we can help others in our community to feel more peace and kindness inside and to raise happy and healthy kids we will be accomplishing our goal.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: As a new business, our current challenge is just getting the word out and getting people in the doors. We have so many wonderful offerings already, and we plan to have a full schedule soon. Breigh and I are investing a lot into this business. As the new studio in town, we are currently in the red. By using some of the most successful yoga studios in Denver as a model we have created a business plan that will benefit the business, teachers and clients. Now we just need to find the clients who are seeking what we are offering and more teachers who want to be a part of our vision.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
:We also plan to offer gentle yoga classes for seniors. We would appreciate requests for gentle yoga so we can be sure there is enough interest to add it to the schedule. We are also looking for a yoga teacher who would like to teach these classes.
