A man killed himself with a shotgun in Lafayette on Wednesday afternoon after approaching officers in the parking lot of Flatirons Community Church and announcing his intentions.
Cmdr. Brian Rosipajla said the man, who has not been identified, parked his vehicle about 50 yards from the officers, who were parked and doing paperwork at roughly 5:30 p.m., and started walking toward them.
“He notified the officers that he wanted them to shoot him or he was going to shoot himself,” Rosipajla said. “(The man) retreated back to his vehicle. Our officers took cover as the man pulled a shotgun out of the vehicle and immediately shot himself.”
Rosipajla said the officers were not injured.
