Anne Gorsuch, the mother of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, served two terms in the Colorado legislature and aligned with a conservative faction known as the “House Crazies.” President Ronald Reagan later appointed her to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. Her 22-month tenure as administrator became clouded in controversy and she resigned after being held in contempt by Congress for withholding documents at the request of the Reagan administration. She divorced David Gorsuch and eventually married former House Speaker Bob Burford, taking his name. Anne Burford died in 2004 from cancer at age 62.
