A 28-year-old man who allegedly escaped more than three weeks ago from a work detail in Alabama was arrested Sunday in Pueblo County after authorities say he was found apparently hiding out with a woman.

Austen Williams was booked into the county’s jail after being arrested without incident. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says he had been wanted since March 2 after he escaped from a work detail in Lawrence County, Ala.

Pueblo sheriff’s deputies were alerted by Alabama authorities that Williams was likely staying with 38-year-old Sandra Brooks at a home east of Pueblo, investigators say.

On Saturday, they spotted Brooks at a store, at which point she admitted that Williams was at the home, investigators say. She was arrested on an outstanding Alabama warrant and when investigators went to the home, on the 800 block of Baxter Road, they found Williams.

The sheriff’s office says Williams is awaiting extradition to Alabama.
