The following is a look at the marquee games, matches and meets this week in baseball, girls soccer, boys lacrosse and track. (Rankings and records are current as of Monday).
BASEBALL
No. 4 Cherry Creek (4-1) at No. 2 Rocky Mountain (0-4), Wednesday 4 p.m.: Coach Marc Johnson’s Bruins are coming off consecutive impressive wins over No. 6 Regis Jesuit on Mar. 21 and No. 1 Heritage on Mar. 23, while coach Scott Bullock’s squad looks to rebound from a winless showing at the 2017 National High School Invitational to start the spring.
Lakewood (4-2) at No. 5 Highlands Ranch (4-2), Thursday 4:15 p.m.: A talented mix of sophomores and seniors headline Lakewood’s lineup as the Tigers head into a non-conference battle against junior catcher Jordan Medina (.571, 11 RBI and two HR) and the Falcons.
GIRLS SOCCER
Fairview (2-1) at Legacy (6-0), Tuesday 4 p.m.: In an early yet pivotal Front Range League clash, a potent Fairview offense that’s put up 11 goals over the past two matches clashes against a Lightning attack led by junior striker Gracie Armstrong, who paces Class 5A with 14 goals and 35 total points.
ThunderRidge (4-2) at Regis Jesuit (3-0-2), Tuesday 7 p.m.: Both programs played a brutal early-season schedule up to this point, and the going won’t get any easier for either as junior striker Shae Holmes and ThunderRidge take on senior midfielder Gabbie McWilliams and Regis Jesuit in a Continental League bout.
BOYS LACROSSE
No. 6 Columbine (6-0) at No. 4 Cherry Creek (3-1), Tuesday 8 p.m.: In a Class 5A top ten matchup, junior attack Gabe Mein provides the spark for Columbine, which must place a heavy emphasis on containing Bruins senior attack Asher Nolting (High Point University commit) in order to come away with the road victory.
No. 1 Dawson (3-0) at No. 8 Wheat Ridge (5-2), Friday 5:30 p.m., Trailblazer Stadium: Coach Peter Devlin’s undefeated Mustangs are highlighted by junior attack Gavyn Pure, while the Farmers’ diversified offensive is paced by senior midfielder Zach Hall’s eight goals.
TRACK
Mullen Runners Roost Invitational, Saturday, 8 a.m.: Many of the state’s top track athletes will be on display in an early-season meet that’s often a good predictor of state success. The action runs all day at Mullen High School.
