The Newman Center Presents performance series has built its elegant reputation by showing a certain kind of fine art, a high-end, hugely talented — and very adult — lineup of classical music, contemporary dance and jazz.
The series, which established itself in 2003 and presents touring acts in its namesake theater on the University of Denver campus, has succeeded beyond anyone’s expectations. Audiences have come to trust it, and they can be counted on to buy tickets.
That made the center a draw for its new executive director, Kendra Whitlock Ingram, who replaced founding director Stephen Seifert six months ago.
“Sometimes you go into a place and you have to spend six months fixing things,” said Ingram, who arrived after several years heading up programming for Omaha Performing Arts in Nebraska. “But here, I was able to hit the ground running.”
