Suncor Refinery in Commerce City. Getting your player ready...
If you see smoke and fire in the sky north of Denver, don’t panic.
Suncor Energy is holding its monthly non-emergency fire training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its refinery in Commerce City Thursday. The training will likely produce flames and smoke, Suncor spokesman Paul Newmarch said.
The refinery has had two recent hiccups when power failures sent yellow plumes into the air. , a Suncor spokeswoman said the emissions were not hazardous. In March, released 100 pounds of hydrogen sulfide and more than 500 pounds of sulfur dioxide into the air, exceeding state air quality limits.
