A 31-year-old man who slipped out of the Adams County jail last week by pretending to be another inmate who was being released has been caught, deputies announced Sunday afternoon.

A sheriff’s deputy found a vehicle linked to Shannon Owens at a motel off Interstate 76 northeast of metro Denver Sunday morning then reached Owens by telephone. Owens came out of his room at the motel and was arrested without incident, according to Deputy Michael Kaiser.

The authorities had been holding Owens in the Adams County Detention Facility for violating parole. On Friday, Owens posed as another inmate who was being released, Kaiser said. And correctional officers released him.

Back in the facility Sunday night, Owens was facing an additional charge for escaping.
