A 54-year-old Glenwood Springs man died Saturday evening after rolling his all-terrain vehicle — or utility-task vehicle — down a steep embankment near Rifle.
Authorities say Todd Sellie had a blood alcohol content of .111 — above the legal driving limit in Colorado of .08 — when he crashed on JQS Road. He was wearing a seatbelt, but not a helmet.
According to Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire, Sellie was driving a 2013 Arctic Cat Wildcat across a snow bank on the road when he lost control and rolled several hundred yards down the embankment. The wreck happened at about 5 p.m. at mile marker 9.
Sellie’s cause of death was determined to be from multiple blunt force injuries in what has been ruled an accident.
“A friend in the area notified 911 of the accident,” the county sheriff’s office said in a news release. “He was later able to reach his friend and the ATV, at which time he called 911 again and updated the situation.”
Further details on the crash have not been released.
