A woman struck by a car and killed Saturday while cycling with her husband was a Falcon School District 49 administrator, the third member of the northeast Colorado Springs district’s staff to die since February.

Julia Roark, 55, led education programs and services for Falcon High and Middle schools, as well as Falcon Elementary School of Technology, Meridian Ranch Elementary School and Woodmen Hills Elementary School. She joined the district in 2015.

Roark died when she was hit by a car as she and her husband, Greg Roark, were attempting to cross traffic lanes, .

“Julia dedicated her life to seeing the potential for greatness in others and helping them to reach it,” D-49 board President Marie LaVere-Wright said. “In the two years Julia served in District 49 she had truly become a part of the fabric of the Falcon community and her legacy will live on here through those she mentored and led, and the children whose lives they touch.”

Before joining the Falcon district, Roark spent five years in Aspen working as an assistant superintendent.

“We’re all heartbroken,”

Julia Roark was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the car that hit her is not facing charges and police don’t believe alcohol or speed were factors, the Gazette reported.

Greg Roark, who was not injured, continues to lead the Aspen School District’s aeronautics program, Maloy said. He commuted to Colorado Springs on weekends to spend time with his wife, Maloy said. They have two children — Alexandra, 29, of St. Louis, and Austin, 23, of New Orleans, Maloy said.

Memorial services, which have not been scheduled, will be held for Julia Roark in Aspen and Colorado Springs, Maloy said.
