A federal grand jury in Denver on Thursday indicted the owner of a window cleaning and snow removal business alleging that he concealed hundreds of thousands of dollars in income and failed to report the money on his tax returns.
Sergio Murillo, owner of Mountain High Window Cleaning in Grand Junction, told clients to write checks payable to him and deposited them into his personal account rather than the account of the business between 2007 and 2010, according to the indictment.
Taxes owed on that income amounted to more than $188,000.
He also told Internal Revenue Service employees that his clients decided whether to write the checks to him or to Mountain High, and he only used a business account. He said he deposited all of Mountain High’s income into the business account, the indictment said.
If convicted, Murillo faces a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison for each of the four counts in which he is charged, as well as a period of supervised release, restitution and monetary penalties, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
