WHAT: is a 4-bedroom, 5½-bath log-style home located on 5.78 acres in south Boulder.

PRICE: $6.499 million

SIZE: 7,370 square feet, $881 square foot

LOCATION: Although the property is within Boulder city limits and a 10-minute drive drive to Pearl Street, it has a more rural feel. The location, near Eldorado Springs, provides easy access to Denver, the mountains, and hiking in Eldorado Canyon. The home has its own private stretch of South Boulder Creek and enjoys unobstructed views of the Flatirons from the backyard.

ABOUT THE HOUSE: According to , the homeowners, originally from New York, spent five years scouting the perfect location to create their dream home, and another three years to build.

Once the lot was purchased, the couple carefully designed the home, paying homage to rustic Adirondack camps and traditional Western lodges they discovered while on road trips through national parks. The home is wood-framed with log siding, allowing insulation, electric and plumbing to live within the walls. The logs are standing-dead spruce and ponderosa pine sourced from Montana.

The wife’s love of Southwestern art is evident in the home, and she collaborated with craftspeople in New Mexico and Montana to bring her visions to life. Artisan touches are found in throughout — from carvings on cabinet doors, to custom stone work to handcrafted light fixtures.

In addition to Wolf and Sub Zero appliances, the kitchen contains decorative details and cabinetry from , a furniture maker in Montana. Huge windows in the great room frame the Flatirons. The main level has a private guest suite that also works as an office.

Two stairways lead to the second floor, which features the master bedroom with two antler chandeliers, reclaimed beams and additional custom cabinetry. Three additional bedroom suites are on this level, along with a workout space, sitting area, laundry and a partially finished family room over the three-car garage.

“The home recreates that historic Western-lodge feel,” Hogan said. “But it’s not oversized. It’s scaled for a home. It’s authentic.”

OUTDOOR SPACE: The professionally landscaped yard take advantage of the views of the creek and Flatirons. The stone patio off the house includes an oversized salt water spa, wood-burning fireplace and outdoor kitchen. Closer to the creek, there is a stone amphitheater with firepit. Some outbuildings remain on the property from its former life as a farm that began in 1915, and horses are allowed on the property.
