A man accidentally shot himself while driving late Sunday in southeast Colorado Springs.

Police say the man was near the 2100 block of Jet Wing Drive — west of the Colorado Springs airport — when the shooting happened just before midnight. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators did not immediately release further details in the case, including the man’s name or if he is facing any charges.

Last week, an 18-year-old Colorado Springs man was arrested . Investigators say they believe he really had accidentally shot himself. Phillip Terry has been charged with prohibited use of weapons and false reporting.

“Upon viewing the victim’s injury and the trajectory of the bullet,” Colorado Springs police said in a news release, “it appeared highly unlikely that the victim was shot as he described. Through further follow up, officers discovered that the victim was playing with a handgun when it accidentally fired, striking him in the leg.”
