Repositioned stop signs and freshly-striped streets are a few upgrades Lyons residents could see in the coming weeks.

The dialogue about how to calm the town’s traffic flow is ongoing among residents, town officials and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, with more information anticipated at Monday night’s Board of Trustees meeting.

Lyons neighborhoods have experienced a surge in traffic as drivers evade traffic backup along U.S. 36 and Colo. 7, used as a gateway for travelers to and from Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Improvements to the town’s parks and trails also have attracted visitors.

Boulder County sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Crist said he’ll present to the board some of the viable ideas brought up at an April 6 community meeting, where about 25 residents voiced concerns as well as short- and long-term suggestions.

He said short-term fixes that can be implemented immediately include striping the center of streets, freshening paint of existing stop bars, replacing faded reflective signs and strategically repositions stop signs.
