Police say Louis Ortiz, 46, was driving a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee on April 13 — and eluded authorities — when he was spotted by officers near Washington Street and East 45th Avenue.
Police were tailing the Jeep, at West 39th Avenue and Shosone Street, slamming into the school bus.
The school bus was taking students from Denver Montessori Junior/Senior High School, 4250 Shoshone St., home at the end of the school day.
Thirty-nine students were on the bus, 21 of whom were not injured. Those not taken to the hospital were treated at the scene, mostly for bumps and bruises, Jones said.
Ortiz, who also suffered bumps and bruises, was taken to a hospital and was arrested, police said. Four others were in the SUV, two adults and two children. All of them were taken to a hospital with one of the children — who is under 7 years old — suffering critical injuries, according to court records and police.
