A man shot and killed his brother Sunday evening north of Colorado Springs.

El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating, agency spokeswoman Jacqueline Kirby said.

Dispatchers received a call at 6:14 p.m. alerting them to the shooting. When they got to the scene – east of Interstate 25, north of Monument, just south of the El Paso County-Douglas County line – they found one brother dead.

“We are investigating it as a suspicious death,” Kirby said late Sunday. She called local media reports that one or both of the brothers had been drinking “unconfirmed information.”

The authorities declined to give names, ages and information about the gun and circumstances around the shooting.

Crime investigators were working at the scene, waiting on a coroner, processing evidence, Kirby said. “The detectives are going to be out there most of the night.”
