A man who told authorities that the pair were “practicing defensive techniques” when the shooting happened, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says.

Erik Mattyasovsky, 30, was arrested on suspicion of reckless manslaughter and prohibited use of a weapon. Investigators say he was booked into the county jail.

The shooting happened about 6:15 p.m. near the 19800 block of Alexandria Drive.

Deputies were called to the scene where they found Mattyasovsky’s brother — whose name has not been released — dead.

“Deputies contacted the suspect who admitted he had shot his brother while they were practicing defensive techniques,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release Monday. “The victim’s name will be released once the autopsy is complete.”

Investigators have called the shooting accidental.
