Home-run hamburger

Batter up, hungry bargain hunters. This season, when the Colorado Rockies hit a double, fans score a free McDouble at McDonald’s the following day. No purchase necessary. To get the tasty offer, download the official McDonald’s app and redeem the offer via a digital coupon. The offer ends Aug. 10.

Teacher’s pet

Here’s an easy lesson: Teachers can get two deals this week as a show of appreciation for their hard work. On May 1, Pizzeria Locale is offering a buy-one-get-one free Classic Pizza. (The Boulder location is not participating.) Then, on May 2, they get a buy-on-get-one free burrito, bowl, salad or order of tacos at Chipotle. Both offers are available from 3 p.m. to close and require a proper school faculty ID. (The Chipotle offer is open to teachers, faculty and staff.)

Hot dog!

Sonic Drive-In is celebrating spring by offering the family-favorite corn dog for 50 cents on May 4. Everyone in the family can chow down on a dog or two without breaking the budget. Also, the fast-food chain continues to offer half-price drinks from 2 to 4 p.m. and half-price shakes after 8 p.m. daily. Combine the two deals for major savings.

Dirt cheap

Denver residents can get their hands dirty with free mulch on May 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., while supplies last. Dig-your-own mulch sites are at Veterans Park (Iowa and Vine streets), Bear Creek Park (south of Dartmouth Avenue on Raleigh Street), Sloan’s Lake Park (Sheridan Boulevard and 17th Avenue) and Fred Thomas Park (Quebec Street and 26th Avenue). In addition to dig-your-own mulch, Havana Nursery (10450 Smith Road) will have loader service for trucks and trailers, as well as low-cost compost. Compost is $3.75 per 1.25 cubic-foot bag or $35 per cubic yard. Buyers are limited to 20 bags of compost per vehicle. For more information, call 720-913-1311.

Pin heads

Families will be bowled over with frugal fun at this event. Bowlero (9255 Kimmer Drive, Lone Tree) is hosting a Kids Fest on May 6. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., kids (15 and under) get one hour of free bowling, including shoe rental. Adults bowl for one hour for $5. Because bowling can strike up hunger and thirst for athletes of all ages, between frames, everyone can also get hot dogs and soft drinks for just $1 each.
