The Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon (three goals, one assist) and Tyson Barrie (one goal, three assists) had four-point games to spark Canada’s 7-2 victory over Slovenia Sunday in group play at the World Championships in Paris.

“I thought the puck was following me around,” MacKinnon told reporters. “I had a couple of greasy goals.”

Colorado’s Matt Duchene didn’t have a point and goaltender Calvin Pickard, who was in the net for Canada’s opening-game win over the Czech Republic, didn’t play.

Later Sunday, the United States, with Avalanche center J.T. Compher going pointless and Arizona’s Clayton Keller, 18, getting a hat trick, beat Denmark 7-2 in Cologne.

Also, Colorado winger Mikko Rantanen assisted on Finland’s only goal in a crushing 5-1 loss to France in Paris.

On Saturday in Cologne, Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog had a goal and two assists as Sweden beat Germany 7-2.
