A 25-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle late Saturday in Glenwood Springs had a blood alcohol level more than four times the legal driving limit in Colorado, authorities say.

Edwin Omar Ventura’s blood alcohol content was .346 when he was hit as he darted across a highway, according to the Garfield County Coroner’s Office.

Ventura, of Carbondale, was struck by a car on Colorado 82 near a McDonald’s restaurant just before midnight and pronounced dead at an area hospital about 1 a.m. Sunday.

Coroner Robert Glassmire ruled Ventura’s manner of death accidental from blunt force injuries.

in Glenwood Springs reports Ventura was wearing dark clothing and ran across the highway when he was hit by a Jeep. Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson said no charges have been brought against the driver, and none are expected.
