Fire crews are responding to an oil tank explosion off Colorado 66 near Colorado Boulevard, Mountain View Fire officials confirmed shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday.

Mountain View Fire Battalion Chief Roger Rademacher said three workers on site were injured and transported by ambulance. One had serious injuries, and the others had moderate injuries.

According to a Weld County sheriff’s news release, the oil tank battery is owned by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, which is under scrutiny for owning a well linked to a deadly Firestone house explosion April 17.

“Preliminary information suggests that maintenance was possibly being performed on the site when the incident happened,” the release reads.

The site is about 4 miles north of the Firestone house that exploded.

Mark Martinez and brother-in-law Joey Irwin, both 42, were killed in the Firestone house explosion. Erin Martinez was left badly burned.

No evacuations of nearby residences were ordered after Thursday’s fire. The fire department said there was no hazard for residents of the area.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
