Boulder County rescuers saved a 7-year-old Labrador retriever stranded on a rock in the middle of Boulder Creek’s rushing rapids Thursday afternoon.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 1:30 p.m. about a dog in the river west of Nederland. The dog, named Sage, was running with her owner on the trail when she wound up in the river.
Rescuers from the Nederland Fire Protection District, Boulder Emergency Squad’s swift water team, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and American Medical Response worked to rescue the dog.
After setting up a technical rescue, Boulder Emergency Squad rescuer Cliff Rosell forded the creek while on a safety line to reach Sage. He then carried the dog to safety using a high line across the creek.
Sage was wet, but not injured, sheriff’s officials said.
