Thornton Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with the murder investigation of , who went missing last week after last being seen with her 15-year-old stepbrother.

Police would not confirm if the boy arrested Saturday night was the same as the one last seen with Campbell.

“It’s still ongoing, and there are still things to tie up at this time,” said Officer Victor Avila, Thornton Police Department spokesman. “That’s why we’re keeping it close to the vest … to make sure we get a successful prosecution at the end of this.”

Detectives with the Thornton police arrested a 15-year-old boy at 11:38 p.m. Saturday for investigation of first-degree murder before booking him and transporting him to the Adams County juvenile detention facility.

Because he is a juvenile, his name will not be released, Avila said.

Campbell disappeared Wednesday night while walking with her stepbrother from her home in the 12400 block of Forest Drive. Following an Amber Alert and an intensive search involving 23 rescue and law enforcement agencies, a child’s body was discovered Thursday afternoon in a greenbelt area about 1½ miles from where Campbell disappeared.

The Adams County coroner later identified the body as that of Campbell. The 15-year-old boy she was with told police that he ran and became separated from the girl when it began raining hard. Some neighbors disputed that there was a rainstorm that night.

Thornton police and Colorado Bureau of Investigation authorities are involved in the death investigation. Anyone with further information regarding this case is encouraged to call a tip line at 720-977-5069.
