A 20-year-old inmate committed suicide early Wednesday morning at the Mount View Youth Services Center in Lakewood.
The staff discovered the 20-year-old during a “routine room check” shortly after 2 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Human Services.
“Despite the efforts of our staff and emergency personnel, the youth did not survive,” a CDHS news release said.
Behavioral health workers are providing support to youths and staff members at the facility. Trauma support is also available to the 20-year-old’s family, the release said.
The last suicide at the state’s Division of Youth Services happened in February 2001, according to the CDHS.
