Someone triggered a fire alarm and sprinklers at 11:20 p.m. Friday, forcing the evacuation of about 300 people and flooding a Lakewood hotel.
The fire alarm on the second floor of the Holiday Inn Denver Lakewood, which is on West Hampden Avenue east of South Wadsworth Boulevard, was intentionally triggered with a heat source, according to West Metro Fire Rescue.
West Metro spokeswoman Ronda Scholting told Denver7 that an “open flame” such as a lighter or a match was used to set off the sprinklers.
The sprinklers caused flooding on the first and second floors as well as the main electrical area. Power was off in the hotel. The person who set off the alarm was in custody as of early Saturday morning.
