Motorcycle cop injured escorting Vice President Pence in Colorado Springs

The police department said the officer was in serious and stable condition

A Colorado Springs motorcycle officer was seriously injured Saturday morning in a crash while escorting Vice President Mike Pence’s motorcade to the airport.

The crash happened about 7:45 a.m. on U.S. 24 near Circle Drive.The officer was identified Saturday afternoon as Andrew Holland, on the forces since 2009.,

Colorado Springs television stations reported that the crash was believed to be accidental. The officer’s injuries were originally reported to be critical, but the police department later said the officer was in serious and stable condition.

Pence posted on Twitter at about 12:30 p.m., saying “Spoke to wife of injured Colorado Springs motorcycle officer. So relieved his injuries not life-threatening. Will keep him in our prayers.”

Westbound U.S. 24 reopened by 11:45.

The vice president was leaving town on Friday.
