A moose on the loose is now a moose on the move.
Wildlife officers tranquilized a moose that was wandering around FlatIron Crossing man in Broomfield for several hours Monday morning and plan to relocate the animal to more moose friendly habitat in South Park.
Broomfield police first tweeted about the animal possibly interfering with traffic at 5:22 a.m. Monday. The moose then bedded down for several hours near the Men’s Wearhouse on East Flatirons Crossing Drive.
A veterinarian and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers were able to tranquilize the animal around 10 a.m. After wandering around the area for another few minutes, the moose finally was knocked out and loaded into a trailer.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill said this moose — a male about 2 or 3 years old — had actually been relocated after showing up in Arvada on June 18.
“He must really like it here,” Churchill said. “Usually they stay where we move them to.”
Early in the day, Broomfield police were asking drivers in the area to use caution while the moose was at large.
