Re: “” June 26 editorial.

Many people today probably are unaware of the discriminatory nature of the Blaine Amendment. Unfortunately, this law that was rooted in bigotry is being used today to prevent parents, especially racial and religious minorities, low-income parents, and families with disabilities from pursuing the best education options for their children.

One thing Coloradans can take comfort in is that Colorado’s Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has taken it upon itself to study the impact of Colorado Blaine Amendment on Coloradans. The committee will hold a on July 18 at the University of Denver to examine the issue of the Blaine Amendment in Colorado. I encourage my fellow Coloradans to come and participate in this important discussion.
