Monument firefighters responding to a report of smoke streaming from a home found food burning on the stove — and more than 100 marijuana plants.
The Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Department doused the kitchen fire at 2022 Coyote Valley Court on June 21. Firefighters then checked the residence and “discovered a large quantity of marijuana plants growing inside,” Monument police said.
Police went to the home Thursday and interviewed the residents who couldn’t “provide the required State of Colorado documentation that would allow the plants to be in the residence,” police said.
Police seized 153 marijuana plants, 289 clones and equipment to grow marijuana.
The homeowners, identified as Wei Lin, and Fang Qin Liu, were arrested. Lin is suspected of unlawful cultivation of marijuana, a felony. Liu is suspected of accessory to a crime, also a felony.
