Authorities in Pitkin County have identified the 67-year-old man on Snowmass mountain.

David Duff, from Chavies, Ky., broke his neck when he fell from his bike. The county coroner has ruled the death an accident.

The Aspen Times reports Duff, through a Kentucky-based limited liability company called Water Mtr, has owned a house outside of Aspen on McLain Flats Road since December 2012, according to Pitkin County property records. The newspaper said Duff — who once owned a coal company — paid $15 million for the 8,000-square-foot home.

Initial reports were that a 65-year-old man had died in the crash before authorities corrected Duff’s age.

The Times reports the crash happened on Snowmass’ Elk Camp side on the Valhalla trail.
