The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office believes that a fire that broke out near the Crown Rock Trailhead on Flagstaff Mountain Wednesday was caused by a person smoking.

Boulder fire crews were able to contain the fire by 3 p.m., about an hour after it was first reported, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Carrie Haverfield.

The fire was reported burning in grass near 2100 Flagstaff Road, and police temporarily closed westbound Flagstaff Road at Chautauqua and eastbound traffic at Flagstaff Summit Road.

No structures were threatened. The fire burned about a quarter of an acre.
